Creative names, explained—not handed over

The useful part of an example is the thinking behind it. These fictional names show six directions you can adapt to your own story.

Every name below is invented for illustration. It may already exist somewhere, so do not treat the list as an availability check. Notice the strategic territory, then create your own words from your audience, benefit and story.

Creative studio

Open DraftSignals a collaborative process and permission to experiment.
ColorfolkCombines visual energy with a friendly, human community.
Second WindowA metaphor for a fresh perspective on familiar problems.

The territory here is not “design services”; it is how the work feels. A studio can own a point of view more easily than a generic list of capabilities.

Technology product

SignalnestTurns complex information into something organised and safe.
PlainstackPromises a simpler approach to technical infrastructure.
LoopwardSuggests forward movement through feedback and iteration.

Technology names benefit from a clear promise or image. Avoid random futuristic spelling unless it supports the product’s actual personality.

Wellness practice

Quiet CurrentCalm on the surface, with steady energy underneath.
Everyday RitualPositions wellbeing as accessible rather than exceptional.
Good GroundConveys stability, nature and a strong foundation.

Wellness language can become vague quickly. Choose the specific emotional result you want to own—energy, rest, confidence or connection—rather than borrowing every soothing word.

Food and hospitality

Sunday JarA warm image of preparation, sharing and slower time.
Little HarvestCelebrates small batches and carefully chosen ingredients.
Table & TideLinks hospitality to a coastal source and rhythm.

Food names are sensory. Build lists from texture, time, place, tools, ingredients and rituals. The right detail feels more appetising than a claim such as “premium taste”.

Consulting firm

Clear NorthCombines clarity with strategic direction.
Useful ChangeA plainspoken promise that rejects transformation theatre.
Bridge & FieldSuggests connecting strategy with work in the real world.

Consulting names often sound interchangeable. A precise belief—practicality, courage, evidence or participation—creates a more credible direction than another abstract “solutions” name.

Independent retail

The Good ShelfFrames curation as the central benefit.
Found & FormedWorks for a mix of vintage discoveries and new craft.
Pocket ParadePlayful, compact and suited to colourful small goods.

Retail names can describe the taste of the curator rather than the inventory. That gives the shop freedom to change products while maintaining a recognisable selection.

How to adapt the thinking

  1. Choose the example whose strategy—not sound—fits best.
  2. Name the underlying idea in one phrase, such as “practical change” or “everyday ritual”.
  3. Build a word bank from your own customers, history and place.
  4. Use three different naming formulas to express that idea.
  5. Discard anything too close to the example and test the new shortlist.
Availability note: these fictional examples are not researched or offered for commercial use. Always conduct your own company, trademark, linguistic and domain checks.
